
Cape Town - The Table Mountain Cableway is once again operating in full swing, following a two-week shut down for scheduled annual maintenance. The cableway company announced it was able to open service on schedule, with pleasant Cape Town weather conditions just ahead of the public holiday
The cableway underwent a complete maintenance service from Monday 25 July to Sunday 7 August 2016 for its scheduled annual maintenance, in order to meet the standards set by the Swiss Governing Body for Cableways (BAV).
Some of the servicing on the cableway included, the replacement of the Top Station generator, maintenance of the 11kV electricity line, cleaning of ropes and slack rope tests, renewing switches and bearings, servicing of the main gearbox, generators and backup generators, as well as general electronic component changes and control checks.

Says Cableway’s Technical Manager Gaziem du Toit, “Not only do we want to ensure that safety standards are maintained, but we also aim to improve our Cableway offering.”
Restorations on the infrastructure has been done at both, the Top and Lower stations of the cableway to ensure that visitors get the most out of their cableway experience.
Also, as part of the kids season special, kicking off today, the cableway is offering two children under the age of 18, a free return trip if they are accompanied by a full paying adult. This deal is valid over weekends, public and school holidays, and will be running until 30 September 2016.
