The 14th annual SANParks Week started on Sunday, with a special launch at Bontenbok National Park near Swellendam as part of the worldwide #LiveYourWild campaign. You'll be able to visit most of the 21 national parks for free until 15 September, when every South African will have equal access to the natural beauty of our country.

The inaugural SANParks Week took place in 2006 and was aimed at linking the South African national parks system to the global national movement.

“This week is an opportunity to showcase all the national parks as key and affordable local holiday destinations which offer unique experiences that families and individuals from all backgrounds, cultures, lifestyles and communities can enjoy,“ said SANParks CEO Fundisile Mketeni at the launch.

Fundisile also further pledged the conservation agency's support to communities that live next to national parks, including opening eight new and refurbished science science labs at their schools in Mpumalanga, Limpopo and Western Cape.
