Weather Update: Cool temperatures with rain for central and eastern SA

Cape Town - Saturday 14 April will have mild weather in the western and northern parts of SA, while the central and eastern parts can expect cool temperatures and rainy weather.

No alerts have been issued for the weekend so far.

The weather forecast for Ironman on Sunday is going to be cloudy with a maximum temperature of 24°C, a light north-easterly wind in the morning that will swell to an easterly wind of 20-30km/h. The sea will have a 1.5m swell with a slight chop due to the winds according to the SA Weather Service.

Rain

On Saturday, a 60% chance of rain is expected over eastern parts of Eastern Cape, KZN, western and south-eastern parts of the Free State, central eastern parts of Northern Cape and the extreme south-eastern parts of Mpumalanga.

A 30% chance of rain is forecast across the central parts of Eastern Cape and Lesotho, the eastern and northern parts of Northern Cape, most of North West except for its northern parts, Mpumalanga, the rest of Free State and the southern parts of Gauteng excluding the main cities.

Temperatures

Minimum temperatures on the weekend will be cool across the country, with cold conditions in the Sutherland, Calvinia and Ermelo regions. Warm temperatures are expected on the East Coast and northern borders, as well as the northern parts of Northern Cape.

The coldest place in SA will be Sutherland in Northern Cape, dropping to 7°C.

Maximum temperatures will be cold in the interior and central southern parts of SA and the south-western coastline. The rest of the country will be warm.

The hottest place in SA will be Skukuza in Mpumalanga again, which will reach a high of 32°C.

In Gauteng, Pretoria will be 26°C while Johannesburg will see a high of 24°C. Bloemfontein in the Free State will also be a high of 23°C.

Along the coastal regions, Cape Town in the Western Cape will reach 22°C, Port Elizabeth in Eastern Cape will see a maximum of 22°C, while Durban in KZN will be 25°C.
