WATCH: Taxify driver fired after 'exposing himself' to rider

A video of a woman allegedly being sexually harassed by a Taxify driver has been doing the rounds on social media, sparking a conversation about safety for riders. Watch.

The passenger, who wished to remain anonymous, was left confused and afraid when the Taxify driver started making remarks about her lips - how they looked 'nice'.

"He made comments like 'he can see himself coming inside of me,' which is when he asked me if I want to see his penis, at which point I saw that he was actually serious," she said.

The passenger says the incident took place in Table View, Cape Town at around 9pm on Sunday, when she was on her way to have dinner with her boyfriend.

"I was panicking," she said.

"I texted my best friend about what was going on and she told me to take a video, to stay calm and not to panic, and for things not to get worse."

She adds that she began laughing out of disbelief.

Many people have expressed their disappointment with the transport company, and have threatened to boycott it.

Taxify Operations Manager, Sinako Cetyiwe, said that they have made direct contact with the rider to assist her with taking the case to law enforcement.

"Taxify will keep working hard to give safe and affordable means of transportation to the people of South Africa, and we take it very seriously if the platform is misused."

The driver has since been removed from the Taxify platform.
