Motorists were greeted with billowing smoke as they made their way past the London Road offramp on the N3 near Alexandra on Monday, after yet another Ford Kuga burst into flames.
A Ford employee had taken a client's vehicle for a test drive when the vehicle burst into flames.
"The car caught fire whilst the driver was still driving. The car was totally burnt out," said Sandton police station spokesperson Captain Granville Meyer.
The driver had not been harmed, Meyer added.
This is the latest in a series of incidents involving the Ford Kuga. In February this year, a driver had a narrow escape as her Ford Kuga caught fire on the N3 near Estcourt in KwaZulu-Natal.
According to Ford South Africa, the details of the incident were still unknown and investigations were underway.
"We are investigating the cause of the fire as a matter of urgency. The safety of our customers is always a priority for us and we are engaged with the customer to minimise the inconvenience caused," it said on Tuesday.
