  • A Cape Town woman has been described as "brave" and "fearless" after removing a snake from underneath her car.
  • Noordhoek resident Cherylee Powell says it's not uncommon to encounter snakes in her area. She was most concerned about the snake's safety.
  • The mole snake was swiftly relocated to nearby dunes.

Cherylee Powell has nerves of steel.

During a walk along Noordhoek beach in Cape Town on Monday, she noticed a snake slithering under her vehicle and didn't flinch.

"We live up on the edge of the Silvermine reserve, next to the Cape Point Vineyards, so we encounter a few snakes," Powell told News24.

Instead of driving off or calling for help, she moved the snake with her bare hands.

Powell, an animal lover who runs a "cat café" in Noordhoek, where guests can interact with hypoallergenic Siberian cats, said she was more concerned about the mole snake's well-being than her own.

"This beautiful mole snake was trying to find some shade under our car," Powell noted in a Facebook post with video footage, filmed by her daughter, of the snake.

"I moved him off into the dunes. Far safer for him," she shared.

Although mole snakes aren't venomous, they can still cause severe bite wounds - a fact that has earned Powell praise from social media followers, who called her "brave" and "fearless".
