During the Covid-19 pandemic, a tweet from a president urging citizens to wear their masks may not seem revolutionary, but in Tanzania it marks a significant shift.
In a tweet over the weekend, President Samia Suluhu urged Tanzanians to take precautionary measures against Covid-19. In official photographs, Suluhu wears a mask, maintains social-distancing and publishes photo-ops in which she elbow-bumps visiting dignitaries. In her first 100 days in office, Tanzania's first woman president steered the East African country toward a new pandemic strategy.
