Mugabe, wife fight to retain farm in Mazowe as 3 farmers take them to court – reports

Zimbabwe's former president Robert Mugabe and his wife Grace have reportedly filed court papers challenging an application by three farmers who were evicted from a farm in Mazowe in 2009 to pave way for the former first family's Gushungo holdings company.

According to Daily News, three farmers – Adonia Makombe, Sahungwe Hungwe and Nyika Chifamba cited Mugabe, Grace, Gushungo holdings, Lands Minister Perrance Shiri, Home Affairs Minister Cain Mathema, police chief Godwin Matanga as well as police chief superintendents only identified as Nhubu and Kunene as respondents.

PICS: Prince Charles in Gambia for first leg of Africa trip

Britain's Prince Charles and his wife, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, have arrived in Gambia for a three-day visit.

President Adama Barrow and first lady Fatoumata Barrow greeted the royal couple on Wednesday along with Gambians who came out in throngs for their arrival.

In February, Gambia was accepted back into the Commonwealth of Nations made up mostly of countries that were once British colonies. Former leader Yahya Jammeh withdrew in 2003, accusing the organisation of being a "neo-colonial institution".

'We won't tell African leaders what to do but we'll push for good governance, says Mo Ibrahim foundation

The Mo Ibrahim foundation has said that it won't tell African leaders what to do but it would continue to focus on what constitutes good leadership on the continent.

The foundation said this a few days after it released its annual report on good governance. 

Over the last decade, overall governance has on average maintained a moderate upward trajectory, with three out of four of Africa's citizens (71.6%) living in a country where governance has improved, the report showed.

Speaking to News24 this week, Mo Ibrahim board member, Ngaire Woods, said the foundation focused on building good political leadership and clean governance on the continent.

Fake state security agent gets 16 years in jail for attempting to assassinate Zim leader – reports

An armed fake state security agent, who breached President Emmerson Mnangagwa's close security on two occasions last year using a fake secret police security clearance at state functions, has been sentenced to 16 years in prison.

According to Daily News, the self-styled prophet, Gathry Chiredzero, was found guilty on all charges against him.

Harare magistrate Yeukai Chigodore sentenced Chiredzero to five years for possessing an offensive weapon at a public gathering, 5 years for impersonating a public official, 4 years for driving without a licence, 1 year for possessing articles for criminal purpose and 1 year for forgery.

Tanzania forms surveillance squad to identify gays on social media and arrest them

Tanzanian authorities have reportedly formed a surveillance squad whose job will be to identify gays on social media and arrest them.

BBC report quoted regional commissioner for the commercial capital, Dar es Salaam, Paul Makonda, as saying that the 17-member team would include state officials from the Tanzania Communications Authority, the police and media practitioners.

The team's main objective would be to monitor social media platforms to find people who engage  in same sex relationships.
