This politics of conspiracy has become a deeply toxic and entrenched feature of the ANC's factional battles, reinforced by an intelligence service that seemed, under Arthur Fraser's leadership, to be intent on manufacturing it, writes Karyn Maughan.
Former State Security Agency (SSA) director-general Arthur Fraser says he's pushing for the declassification of 41 top secret intelligence files – including one on President Cyril Ramaphosa – so that he can fully respond to the treason allegations levelled against him at the state capture inquiry.
But, as one of the Zuma administration's most powerful intelligence operatives, Fraser will almost certainly know that his request to acting director-general at the SSA, Loyiso Jafta, for the declassification of these files is highly unlikely to succeed.
