Democratic Alliance (DA) member Nqaba Bhanga was elected mayor of the Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolitan in January through a six-party coalition after a series of court cases had bedevilled the embattled municipality.
His term comes nearly two years after the City's previous DA mayor Athol Trollip was replaced by his deputy Mongameli Bobani from the United Democratic Front (UDF) after the then coalition government broke down.
With a few months to the oncoming local government elections, the Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolitan faces a number of pressing local issues including the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, and water crisis.
