While legal and gender-based violence experts agree that Western Cape Premier Alan Winde took the correct steps legally in his suspension of Community Safety MEC Albert Fritz after a series of sexual assault allegations, they are concerned about the time it took.
During the two months it took Winde to suspend Fritz, there may have been intimidation of the complainants, revictimisation, and additional trauma, they say.
In a statement on Wednesday, Winde revealed that a third party had told him about the allegations against Fritz "informally" on 23 November 2021.
