Though racist sentiments continue to plague our communities from all sides, there are several issues to consider in the violence and deaths which occurred in Phoenix, writes Ebrahim Harvey. He breaks down what those factors are. 

Nowhere else during the recent unrest, mayhem, killings and looting in South Africa was the tragic history of this country played out with such horror than what happened in Phoenix, northwest of Durban.

Against the backdrop of the ravaging Covid-19 pandemic and an unprecedented socio-economic crisis, Phoenix, an originally Indian working-class township founded during the apartheid era, demonstrated once again how we are tragically reliving our history within our communities.
