After months of delays and with a rise in Covid-19 infections, South Africa embarked on Phase 2 of its Covid-19 vaccination campaign on Monday.

The South African government is aiming to vaccinate five million people over the age of 60 by the end of June, "... provided that the supply of vaccines flow as anticipated", Health Minister Zweli Mkhize said during a briefing on Sunday.

Phase 2 will run concurrently with phase 1B of vaccinations which will cover health workers who had not been vaccinated in Phase 1A of the country's Covid-19 vaccine implementation study, which ended on Saturday, also known as the Sisonke trial.
