South Africans were plunged into darkness when Eskom last week introduced Stage 6 load shedding, which was last seen in 2019. 

Under Stage 6 load shedding, 6 000MW needs to be shed from the country's electricity system, leaving many without electricity for as much as eight hours a day. 

News24 looked at why South Africa is currently experiencing Stage 6 load shedding and spoke to experts about when the situation may improve:
