Accounts taken from eyewitnesses and video footage shot at a gathering of farmers, farmworkers and police in Normandien, KwaZulu-Natal, have been unable to prove that Police Minister Bheki Cele said: "Farmers shouldn't complain when they get hurt."

Cele's alleged comments were raised at an address of farmers gathered in Senekal, Free State, on Tuesday.

The gathering later took a violent turn when an estimated 100 people stormed the Senekal Magistrate's court after two suspects appeared in connection with the death of a farm manager.
