President Cyril Ramaphosa should be seen to personally take charge of a single-minded, unrelenting and determined effort to secure enough doses at any price as quickly as possible. It is an opportunity to lead and put the executive power he and his governing party so obsessively covets to good use, writes Pieter du Toit.

In exactly eight weeks, it will be a year since President Cyril Ramaphosa delivered his first address to the nation about the Covid-19 pandemic that has since wreaked havoc on the health system and economy.

In that speech, he was transparent about what could lie ahead, exhibited a clear determination in charting a way forward and showed much empathy with citizens rattled by what they saw overseas.
