In his new book Give us More Guns, Global Initiative Against Transnational Organised Crime director Mark Shaw details how more than 9 000 firearms in state custody ended up on the black market. 

The sales were predominantly facilitated through Colonel Christiaan Prinsloo, the former head of the Gauteng firearm licence division, and a number of intermediaries before it ended up in the hands of gangsters in the Western Cape.
