It has also released a revised draft language policy that removed the description of Afrikaans as an "indigenous language" at the university, in line with a Department of Higher Education policy in South Africa.  

This, as reports surfaced that university residences banned speaking Afrikaans in communal spaces and the singing of Afrikaans songs at residence social events.
