The Constitutional Court's majority has confirmed it will not backtrack on its decision to send Jacob Zuma to jail for his "egregious" contempt - but, as Karyn Maughan writes, the court's minority has sought to destroy the legitimacy of that decision.

After a 67-day wait, the Constitutional Court's majority confirmed former president Jacob Zuma could and should be jailed for his contempt of its orders to appear before the Zondo Commission - and slammed his efforts to rescind that judgment as "hopeless".

"At the heart of this matter, there is a potent need to uphold the integrity of the administration of justice and to send a message to all litigants that rescission as an avenue of legal recourse remains open, but only to those who advance meritorious and bona fide [genuine] applications, and who have not, at every turn of the page, sought to abuse judicial process," Justice Sisi Khampepe wrote on behalf of the apex court's majority.
