Jacob Zuma's walkout of the state capture commission of inquiry on Thursday was not just a potentially criminal act of personal defiance against Zondo and his inquiry, but also an indictment against the ANC, writes Karyn Maughan. 

Former president Jacob Zuma’s legal team has insisted he respects the Zondo commission of inquiry into state capture and has done his utmost to cooperate with it, despite his repeated failure to provide the commission with the answers it has sought from him over the last two years.

But, on the 19 November, just after noon, South Africa’s former head of state completely and utterly undermined these previous claims – by walking out of an inquiry set up to investigate allegations that his administration was defined by mismanagement, rampant corruption and intelligence and law enforcement abuses.
