Retired Constitutional Court Judge Johan Kriegler says misconduct-accused Western Cape Judge President John Hlophe's acquittal of ANC MP Bongani Bongo on corruption charges is "fundamentally flawed" and called on judicial authorities to immediately suspend him.
"I read the judgment in horror at what had been done," Kriegler told News24 on Monday. "It cannot stand."
He earlier stated Hlophe's "contrived reasoning and perverse ruling" in the Bongo case, in which he stood accused of trying to bribe advocate Ntuthuzelo Vanara into halting Parliament's Eskom inquiry, "demonstrates how dangerous it has been to allow him to remain on the Bench".
