Wits' media professor Anton Harber - who has just published a book looking at how the media aided the state capture era - says the media today is set to repeat past mistakes, that the threat to South Africa’s 2021 local government elections “is imminent”, why journalists should criticise each other more, and discusses what went wrong at the Sunday Times.

In the week that Independent Media reported that a warrant of arrest was issued for ANC secretary-general Ace Magashule, Wits media adjunct professor Anton Harber launched his book delving into how the media played a role in the state capture era. He says a real threat exists that South Africa will repeat mistakes made during that era.
