Amid concerns of a third wave of Covid-19 infections, president Cyril Ramaphosa announced on Tuesday evening that retail sales of alcohol for offsite consumption would be banned for the Easter weekend.

However, in the same speech, he announced that restrictions on gatherings would be relaxed to allow 250 people to gather indoors and 500 to gather outdoors.
