A decision by Colonel Christiaan Prinsloo, the former head of the Gauteng firearm license division, and a network of his cronies to sell  thousands of guns that had been decommissioned to South Africa’s gang lords lead to the deaths of thousands of people between 2011 and 2019.  Based on hundreds of interviews with police and the criminal underworld, 'Give Us More Guns' tells the story of this callous crime for the first time. In this book, author Mark Shaw explores how the illegally sold guns got into the hands of South Africa’s crime bosses.

It was a warm evening, with the long Cape summer and its holidays beginning to beckon.

The first indication of trouble was an anonymous call to the police 10111 centre, which was logged at 22:20.
