INTERVIEW: Andrew Brown
Author, advocate and police reservist, Andrew Brown is the author of the novels Inyenzi, Coldsleep Lullaby, Refuge, Solace, Devil's Harvest, and his latest – The Heist Men (Penguin). He also wrote the non-fiction book Street Blues, about his earlier experience as a police reservist. He has won the Sunday Times Fiction Prize and his work has been shortlisted for the Alan Paton Award and the Commonwealth Writers' Prize (Africa Region). He is married and has three children. He spoke to Jennifer Crocker.
You've had an interesting life and career, from being an activist who was sentenced while a student, and having that sentence overturned in the Western Cape High Court, to being an advocate in the same court. How do those dualities feel? Or is it just so long ago that you no longer think about it?
