If the new prisons boss needed any proof that Zuma did not qualify for medical parole, the pictures of the former president frequenting a casino in Durban is it, writes Adriaan Basson.

When the country's former chief spy-turned-prisons boss Arthur Fraser released Jacob Zuma on medical parole in September - against the advice of the medical parole board - Fraser defended his unilateral decision by saying Zuma was "frail".

In a desperate attempt to cover-up Fraser's bogus decision, the department came up with a range of colourful explanations defending the former president's release on medical parole after only serving 58 days of his 15-month sentence.
