The time has come for the ANC government to recognise that Eskom is no longer capable of recovery if it does not radically shift policy and the way the country produces and procures electricity. It must start with the firing of energy minister Gwede Mantashe, writes Kyle Cowan

Energy minister Gwede Mantashe should be immediately removed from his post if South Africa is to have any chance of saving itself from an energy crisis that could plunge the nation into unprecedented chaos. 

On a cold Tuesday morning, South Africans were presented with a frightening reality - Eskom is dying. The death throes manifested in a dire warning from the leadership of the ailing power utility that we may be faced with Stage 6 load shedding before the day is out.
