One South Africa Movement's Mmusi Maimane responds to former DA leader Tony Leon's comments in a News24 profile that he was "an experiment that went wrong" within the political party.

I left the DA 528 days ago. The reasons for my resignation are both public and well-documented. In my resignation speech, I was unequivocal when I said that "despite my best efforts, the DA is not the vehicle best suited to take forward the vision of building One South Africa for All".

Since then, the party has consistently proved this point to be true as it systematically undoes any progress made towards building a multiracial, credible alternative to the ANC. As it continues with a coordinated attempt to rewrite history, the party's leadership cannot seem to keep my name out of their mouths, with message scripts and donor info packs scapegoating Mmusi Maimane for all of its ills.
