Larry Claasen, the editor of Business Insider SA, writes about the grief within his grief and how the Covid-19 variant, B.1.1.529, is taking an unexpected toll on his family.

On 23 December 2021, my family should have had some sort of closure around my mother's death. The emergence of the Covid-19 variant, B.1.1.529, has now delayed that.

She died on 18 August 2020, but travel restrictions and lockdowns prevented my UK-based older brother and his family from attending her memorial service last year.
