With 200 days of lockdown behind us, we can now look back and appreciate just how difficult 2020 has been, writes Mandy Wiener. 

How do you measure the cost of a life? Or of an individual's livelihood?

When President Cyril Ramaphosa and the National Coronavirus Command Council took the decision to put South Africa into one of the hardest lockdowns in the world in March, could they have had the foresight of where we find ourselves now? It was this fine balancing act, of weighing lives and livelihoods that they had to navigate.
