This season of South Africa is a lot, writes Mandy Wiener. "Each day we wake up and ask what fresh hell awaits us. As the cool kids say, Satafrika issa movie. And we are all extras."

One upon a time, many moons ago, the acclaimed crime fiction author Deon Meyer and I were on a panel together at a book event. He told the audience that if he were to use the scripts of one of the books I had written about events in South Africa, as the plot of one of his books, it would be too unrealistic. No one would believe it.
