Mbhazima Shilowa writes that anyone who crossed paths with Duma Nkosi, who was once the mayor of Ekurhuleni, will attest that the country has lost a true leader, a servant of the people, a patriot, a man of integrity, ethics and principle.

Often our heroes and heroines are people with a national persona and high media profile. In reality, most leaders go about their work every day without seeking to elevate their persona above their work or to be in the media limelight.

Whereas it is accepted as the gospel truth that leaders are self-serving and have no interest in the masses that they purport to serve, many never use their positions to amass wealth or to ascend to higher positions, but rather doggedly focus on the work at hand - serving their people the best way they can.
