Qaanitah Hunter writes that she watched the security cluster briefing on Tuesday in disbelief, witnessing a government definitely not in control of the current situation.

I watched in shock on Tuesday morning when Police Minister Bheki Cele announced the death toll of the unrest at 10 people, despite all indications that the figure was much higher and growing.

His briefing came after KwaZulu-Natal Premier Sihle Zikalala confirmed that 26 people died in the violence plaguing his province. Moments later, Gauteng Premier David Makhura said 19 people had died in his province, including 10 people who died in a stampede in Meadowlands, Soweto.
