While our medical fraternity should be applauded for how it handled the Covid-19 pandemic, the same cannot be said of our government, writes Ralph Mathekga.

South Africa's impending shift to Level 1 is a bittersweet moment for a nation which has endured one of the world's harshest lockdowns due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

On the one hand, things look good in the sense that the spread of the virus is demonstrably declining, coupled with a very moderate mortality rate, given the level of infection experienced.
