A 15-year-old is still traumatised after jumping out a back window when three of her family members were shot and killed in Ekuphumleni, Khayelitsha, on Sunday evening 22 May.

It is believed two armed men entered the house at Lindelwa Street where they shot and killed two family members who were watching television.

The attackers then proceeded to a room where they shot and killed a woman, the house owner, who was folding the clothes.

When City Vision arrived at the house on Monday morning, blood was visible on the floor and inside the room.

Shocked family members were too distraught to speak to City Vision about this gruesome ordeal.

Neighbours arrived to console the weeping family, while they also shared their condolences.

Imbi into ibilapha bra. This area is not known for such killings. All we experience here is your normal crime not this,” said one of the residents.

One of the first people on the scene, David Moyakhe, said he left the house 15 minutes earlier. “I left this house at 19:45, while the family was watching TV as I was worried about load shedding. I would say at about 20:00 these two men started outside where they scared the dogs with live shots before entering the house,” said a shocked Moyakhe.

“They entered the house where they just shot everyone in front of them before killing the mother who was inside the room. A 15-year-old child who related the story to us, hid behind the door before jumping out the window at the back and ran to the neighbours for help,” he said.

Brig Novela Potelwa, Western Cape Police spokesperson, said organised crime detectives initiated an investigation. “Lingelethu police were called out to Lindelwa Street where they found the bodies of two men and a woman with gunshot wounds. It is alleged that two armed men in dark clothes stormed the home at 20:10 and fired several shots,” she said.

The ages of the deceased persons are 51, 53 and 57.

Potelwa said information gathered from the scene indicates all three victims were siblings.

The detectives are currently pursuing several leads as part of the investigation into the shooting incident, she said.

Potelwa said no arrests have been effected as yet.

This recent shooting follows a number of mass shootings that have taken place in Khayelitsha in recent months.
