Gugulethu police are investigating a murder and attempted murder case after three people were shot dead inside a house at NY112 on Saturday 14 January.
The motive behind the shooting is unknown.
Gugulethu Police Station spokesperson Sgt Sindisiwe Ngqele said no arrests have been made.
“Three men died on the scene and one person, who was injured, was rushed to hospital. Two men were shot while sitting on the couch. The other one was on the floor. At least 11 cartridges were found on the scene,” said Ngqele.
Ward 40 councillor Bongani Ngcombolo described the incident as shocking. He urged whoever has information regarding the incident to come forward, citing an increase in mass shootings.
“Late last year, two security officers were shot and injured while on duty at Luyolo Construction site at NY 132. Three years ago, there were other incidents where a group of people, mostly elders, were shot and killed in NY 78. We are appealing to the police to pull up their socks and ensure that they execute their job properly,” appealed Ngcombolo, adding that one death is one too many.
He urged the community to work together with the police to fight crime.
