Planned maintenance work will be conducted in Strand and Sir Lowry’s Pass this week, disrupting the water supply to these areas on the scheduled days.
Strand is scheduled for work on Tuesday 24 January, from 21:00 overnight to 04:00 on Wednesday 25 January, while Sir Lowry’s Pass will be affected on Thursday 26 January, from 21:00 overnight to 04:00 on Friday 27 January.
Zero-pressure testing, which forms part of the installation process for pressure management technology, will be conducted by the City of Cape Town’s Water and Sanitation Directorate. Tests are done to see if any unmapped inflows need to be considered before installing smart pressure reducing valves.
Residents who live in the affected areas may experience low water pressure, and some may have no water from taps during the testing period. The City cannot predict which specific areas or streets will experience disruptions.
The work forms part of the Water Demand Management Strategy, aimed at reducing the possibility of pipe bursts and water wastage.
“The City sincerely regrets any inconvenience, but it is imperative that it maintain and upgrade its water-supply infrastructure to benefit its consumers,” it said in statement.
