Detectives in Thornhill are investigating a case of culpable homicide after two people died in a head-on collision on the N2, Gamtoos, on January 27.

According to police spokesperson, Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg, it is alleged that at about 09:30 on the N2, Gamtoos Heights before Gamtoos River, a Land Cruiser was travelling from Jeffreys Bay towards Gqeberha with two occupants, while the driver of a Nissan Hardbody bakkie was traveling alone in the opposite direction when the two vehicles collided.

“It is alleged that the Land Cruiser overtook a vehicle and travelled on the wrong side of the road and collided head-on with the Nissan bakkie,” said Janse van Rensburg.

She said the female driver and the male passenger in the Land Cruiser died on the scene and the driver of the Nissan bakkie sustained serious injuries and was taken to a hospital in Gqeberha.

Janse van Rensburg said no other vehicles were involved in the accident and the investigation is ongoing.
