THE Nelson Mandela Bay Business Chamber has appointed Lungi Mtshutshwana as the new SMME Services Co-ordinator, effective January 2023, and he will serve as a single point of contact in providing advisory and support services to members.
Mtshutshwana is no stranger to the chamber having previously worked as the membership participation and events co-ordinator, before working for a brand and digital management company. He started at the chamber as an intern in 2018, later being appointed to co-ordinate various events and build strong partnerships between the organisation and members.
Mtshutshwana holds a B-Tech in Public Administration, a National Diploma and Project Management certificate. He takes over from Lunga Mjodo, who has been promoted to a Business Information Manager role, overseeing the business intelligence and entrepreneurship desk initiatives.
“We are pleased to welcome Lungi into this role as he is adept to the Chamber’s new strategy and business landscape. More importantly, he understands the importance of the SMME sector and its role in creating employment to grow the local economy,” said Ashwin Daya, the Chamber’s chief operations officer.
Mtshutshwana will report to Mjodo to help drive the role of the SMME and Entrepreneurship Desk which facilitates the creation of an enabling environment for the SMME sector, and provides support by dealing with stumbling blocks within the SMME ecosystem. The desk was established in April 2022 and has 116 businesses registered, of which almost 80% are black-owned and 54% are female-owned.
