
Police in Gqeberha arrested a murder and an attempted murder suspect this weekend in separate incidents in Bethelsdorp and Kabega Park respectively.
According to Colonel Priscilla Naidu, police spokesperson, it is alleged that in the first incident on Wednesday, 18 January at about 13:30, the complainant (24) was standing in Scholtz Street in Bloemendal when the suspect walked passed with his son from school.
"The suspect pointed the complainant with a firearm. The complainant had walked away and while he was in Aspelling Street in Bloemendal, the suspect returned and fired a shot at the complainant, but missed," Naidu said.
On Saturday, 21 January SAPS Bethelsdorp detectives arrested the 28-year-old suspect and detained him on a charge of attempted murder. "He will appear in the Gqeberha Magistrate's Court on Monday, 23 January."
A 41-year-old woman will appear in the St Albans Magistrate's Court on Monday on a charge of murder, following the fatal stabbing of a 26-year-old man from the Gro-Gro informal settlement last night, 21 January.
"It is alleged that at about 22:40, a group of friends were drinking in a shack when an argument broke out between them. In the ensuing argument, the 26-year-old man was stabbed in his chest by the wife of one of his friend’s.
"The suspect was arrested on the scene and detained."
