“Submission documents for the third annual Deep South Community Art Exhibition are now available,” reads a post on Facebook, alluding to the impending opening of the submission period for the annual art show.
Interested artists – who create work in any form and using any medium – will be happy to know that artwork submissions will take place from Monday 15 to Thursday 25 November. With the submission period looming, however, that means documentation should be submitted as soon as possible.
The exhibition began in 2019, launched by local fine arts photographer Margherita Introna, for a number of reasons. She told People’s Post at the time: “I had a number of personal reasons for wanting to host a community group exhibition. One of the main reasons was that I have been living in my little village since 2015 and other than my direct neighbours (who I had known since before I moved here), I knew absolutely nobody in the village.”
In addition to meeting people, she also aims to put local artists’ work on a stage where it can be seen and raise funds for Tears Animal Rescue in Sunnydale.
Last year, despite the pandemic and subsequent lockdown, the exhibition went on with over 45 artists with over 150 pieces of art – a tremendous growth from the previous year’s 29 local artists and more than 100 works.
With documentation now available for this year’s show, Introna says: “I am already getting a wonderful response from both returning artists, as well as new artists, wanting to take part in this year’s event.”
She says there will be lots of old, returning features of the exhibition this year including the support-an-artist initiative and possibly the yoga sessions, which were introduced last year, and adds that there are more ideas in the pipeline.
New information will be made available in the coming weeks.
