Even though the matric class of 2022 was severely affected by the Covid pandemic, Fairbairn College still got it right to achieve a 96,6% pass rate from its matriculants.
Overall, the high schools in Goodwood boast excellent results. President High School with a pass rate of 96,1%, Goodwood College had a pass rate of 91,9%, and J.G. Meiring a pass rate of 85,5%.
Jo-Anne Malcolm, the Grade 12 grade head of the 2022 class at Fairbairn College, says the school has high academic standards and always aims for a 100% pass rate.
Malcolm explained that “the 2022 grade 12s were badly impacted by the covid pandemic”.
“So, it was inevitable that they would struggle,” Malcolm said. This comes after a drop from last year’s exquisitely 97,9% matric pass rate at the school.
“We are still immensely proud of our learners. Fairbairn College is committed to achieving its goal of a 100% pass rate,” Malcolm said.
The top subjects in this school were Afrikaans with 29 distinctions, business studies with 23 distinctions, English with 21 distinctions and accounting 16 with distinctions.
The top students at Fairbairn College were:
- Amy Stadler 85,0%
- Jared Wyngaardt 82,7%
- Mia West 82,5%
- Keeran Moodley 81,4%
- Hayley Simpson 80,5%
Malcolm’s advice for the 2023 matrics is to start working from day one.
“Don’t leave studying to the last minute,” Malcolm says.
She advises that the matrics should find a healthy balance in their life. And that they should look after their mental health.
