A Despatch police officer went beyond the call of duty once again, to deliver a bouncing baby boy in the early hours of Monday morning, 28 November.
This was the fifth baby that Warrant Officer Roderick Middelkamp helped to deliver whilst on duty.
Police members were busy patrolling the Reservoir Hills area when at 00:10 a community member stopped WO Middelkamp and informed him that a lady was about to go into labour and needed an ambulance.
The police members contacted the ambulance services and while waiting for them to arrive, WO Middelkamp, who has experience in delivering babies, rushed to assist the mother. WO Middelkamp noticed that the woman was in labour and assisted her with the birth of her son.
This was the first time that WO Middelkamp delivered a boy, as the other four babies were all girls.
Both mother and baby were taken to a local hospital for the necessary medical assistance.
