EFF presents Zulu king with five cows on his birthday

Nongoma - The Economic Freedom Fighters presented King Goodwill Zwelithini with five live cows on his 69th birthday in Zululand, KwaZulu-Natal on Thursday.

EFF leader Julius Malema led his party's executive to King Zwelithini's Linduzulu Royal Palace in Nongoma where they held a closed meeting.

The party's visit coincided with His Majesty's 69th birthday.

After the meeting, Malema told journalists that the King had advised them to behave themselves when in Parliament - in a manner that would not perpetrate violence among ordinary citizens.

"We took his advice and counselling. He asked us to be responsible. He told us to let people know that we're not enemies with other political parties. We committed to the King that we will practice his advice. He is not just a King but our father as well," Malema said.

Malema said his party was ready to work with traditional leaders when the EFF comes into power.

When asked how he felt about the EFF's visit to his palace, Zwelithini said he did not see anything wrong with it because he had been visited by other politicians before.

"I don't think that anyone would have a problem with this visit. I welcome anyone who comes to pay their respects in the palace and I did the same with Malema," he said.

The EFF is in KZN ahead of its fourth birthday celebration in Durban on Saturday.

During a community visit on Wednesday, Malema said the party had chosen to celebrate their anniversary at "Jacob Zuma's backyard" because they're not scared of him.

He warned people not to vote for people just because "they are from Natal".

President Zuma is from the province and now the ANC in KZN is backing his ex-wife Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma to be the next president of the party.

If Dlamini-Zuma wins during the ANC's elective conference in December, she would automatically become the country's president if the ANC wins the 2019 elections.

KZN Health MEC Dr Sibongiseni Dhlomo and Finance MEC Belinda Scott also visited the King on his birthday.
