The eThekwini municipality maintains that all its beaches will reopen, despite concerns by non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and opposition parties that raw sewage continues to run into the beaches.

On Tuesday, the City cancelled a public meeting on the state of Durban's beaches at short notice, merely two days ahead of the 1 December deadline to open beaches, the Daily Maverick reported.
