As more than 24 000 personnel continue their search and rescue operations, the death toll has climbed to above 5 000 in both Turkey and Syria after two devastating 7.8 and 7.5 magnitude earthquakes rocked the region early on Monday morning. 

The epicentre of the first earthquake was about 30km from Gaziantep, a major Turkish city and provincial capital.
