On Monday, 10 October, former president Jacob Zuma appeared in the Pietermaritzburg High Court to privately prosecute prosecutor advocate Billy Downer and News24 legal specialist journalist Karyn Maughan.

What is the case about?

Zuma claims Downer and Maughan contravened a section of the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) Act, that prohibits NPA employees from disclosing private documents to members of the public. Members of the NPA who leak private documents could face imprisonment of up to 15 years if convicted.
