Keeping out the winter chill

The South African camping scene gets a little quiet during the months between May and August. And for good reason too, as some parts of our country are downright miserable. It’s not appealing to have to pitch a tent in that. (Besides a few exceptions like the KZN coastline, of course. - Ed.)

Even if you manage to find a secluded little campsite that’s protected from the howling wind and doesn’t usually have torrential rain for you to worry about, the winter temperatures can send a chill down your spine.
