Bontle has long been the only campsite in the Marakele National Park, but now the Morukuru bush camp is an alternative.
It’s run by the honorary rangers of SANParks, and they do things a little differently here.
Guests bring their own camping gear, but bookings work in groups. Up to eight people camp here at a fixed rate. So, if you’re part of a smaller group, the rangers can add other campers if you want. The camp runs from Friday to Sunday and you camp properly in the bush among tamboti trees. (This is where the name comes from: “morukuru” is the Tswana word for tamboti.) The camp itself is a good 40 minutes from Bontle and therefore completely secluded and private.
