A company with links to the wife of former Eskom executive for group capital Abram Masango, Chrestina, was paid R894 million over six years for worker accommodation for the Kusile Power Station project near Delmas, Mpumalanga.
The power utility spent roughly R2 billion between 2012 and 2018 to accommodate thousands of Kusile workers at hostels and guest houses in nearby Emalahleni. This includes roughly R845 million for the construction of the failed Wilge Housing Project – nine blocks of flats meant to house 336 accommodation units and save Eskom millions of rands.
